Haitian beauty routine: The carrot face mask
“Carrots are rich in Vitamin A, which should keep your skin healthy.”
Carrots are rich in Vitamin A, which should keep your skin healthy. They also contain antioxidants and can help prevent diseases like cancer and heart disease. Carrot juice is a good natural source of beta-carotene, an antioxidant that converts to vitamin A inside the body. Carrots also contain potassium and calcium, both important minerals for maintaining healthy bones.
Carrots have been used as a folk remedy to whiten teeth because they contain oxalic acid (which removes stains) and allicin (which kills bacteria). In addition to these properties, carrots are high in fiber and low in calories so they make a great snack food!
Steps:
- Ingredients:
- 1 carrot
- 2 tbsp of honey
- Preparation: Cut the carrot into thin slices and puree it in a blender. Add two tablespoons of honey to the blended carrots and mix well.
- Apply to face until crumbs dry then rinse it off. Your face will never look so good. This is something women in Haiti would do when going to a wedding or party or somewhere fancy and you need that extra face glow.
Peel a carrot and cut it into small pieces. Blend until it becomes a cream.
To begin, you’ll need to peel a carrot. To do this, first cut off the top of the carrot and remove any leaves that are attached. Then, using a paring knife or vegetable peeler, carefully slice off all of the skin from one side of the carrot. It’s helpful to use a few strokes from each side in order to make sure you get all of it without wasting any food!
Next comes cutting your carrots into smaller pieces. If you have an old-fashioned hand grater with large holes on its surface then this will be easy for you; otherwise, just grab some kitchen shears and snip away at those roots until they’re downsized enough to fit into your blender (or whatever other tool you want!)
Finally, throw everything together in their respective containers—carrot peels go in one container while cream goes in another—and blend them together until well mixed! Now wash off your face with warm water before applying this mask as normal.”
Add one egg white and one tablespoon of lemon juice to the carrot puree and mix well.

This mask has a lot going for it—egg whites are known for their moisturizing properties, while lemon juice is a good cleanser. It’s great for oily skin types like mine!
Apply the mask to your face and leave it on for 15 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
- Apply the mask to your face and neck using a gentle, circular motion.
- Leave the mask on for 15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
- Pat dry with a clean towel (do not use hot water or cold water to rinse off).
- Do not apply if you have damaged skin (e.g., sunburn, acne).
Carrots are good for your skin, eat more of them!
Carrots are rich in Vitamin A, which is essential for many of your body’s functions. This vitamin plays a key role in maintaining healthy skin and effectively absorbing sunlight for the production of vitamin D. Carrots also contain beta-carotene, an antioxidant that can help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals (which can lead to cancer). Vitamin A has been shown to reduce the risk of developing cataracts and age-related macular degeneration (AMD), two common eye conditions associated with aging.
The list goes on! Carrots have many other vitamins and minerals beyond just A—they’re also good sources of fiber, calcium, and potassium—and they’re a great way to add color to your diet!
